About Ruth

I move through the world slowly — on foot, by bike, and across open water.

I’m an AI PhD by training, a photographer by instinct, and an adventurer by nature. My work in technology and science has always been driven by the same thing that pulls me into the wild: curiosity. A desire to understand how complex systems work — whether that’s an algorithm, a landscape, or a moment of human experience.

In research and in the outdoors, I’m drawn to exploration, pattern-finding, and discovery. Active Adventure People is where those worlds meet: thoughtful inquiry, physical endurance, and the deep pull of the natural world.

Chasing Immersion

I don’t chase checklists or luxury. I chase immersion.

Whether I’m hiking for days through alpine terrain, paddling a kayak into remote fjords, or riding a quiet road until the noise disappears, the goal is always the same: immersion. To move through a place slowly enough that it begins to shape how I think, feel, and see.

That’s why I choose human-powered journeys. When you move under your own effort, distance becomes real, weather becomes personal, and landscapes become intimate. You don’t just pass through — you belong, if only for a while.

How I Choose My Adventures

Many of my journeys begin the same way: with curiosity.

I read expedition reports, follow other adventurers, pore over maps, and sometimes get lost in lists — from National Geographic features to personal blogs written by people who simply went out and tried something bold. The best ideas often come not from polished guides, but from someone quietly sharing what they discovered.

Over time, those fragments turn into routes, and routes turn into stories. Each adventure on this site was shaped by people who came before me — and I hope my own journeys will help someone else begin theirs.

Why I Share This

Many people feel drawn to adventure — and just as many talk themselves out of it.

I know these journeys aren’t for everyone. But I also know that many people never try because they imagine they aren’t strong enough, brave enough, or experienced enough. Through these stories, I want to offer something different: a glimpse of what’s possible, and the quiet confidence that grows when you step into the unknown.

If this space gives you a sense of wonder, or the courage to take your own first long step, then it’s doing exactly what it’s meant to do.
